The Sorapuru House was constructed for free people of color in 1825, it remains in the same family and is listed on the National Register. In June 2021, the Sorapuru Family donated a preservation easement to LTHP. The house was damaged by Hurricane Ida several months later. All tax-deductible donations to LTHP for the Sorapuru House will go toward the restoration in their entirety.

After ownership for 181 years, the Middleton Family wanted to insure this (ca. 1779) house was protected before it was sold. The family and their realtor worked with LTHP to develop and donate preservation easements which legally protect the structure. For more information about preservation easements, contact Brian Davis at bdavis@LTHP.org or 318.267.5220.
